The well-known popular resorts of Langkawi, Penang and Pangkor, located along the west coast of the Malacca peninsula, throughout our “national” winter delight tourists with excellent sunny weather. But these islands are not the best diving resorts in Malaysia. But this country has something to offer divers!
From March to October, it is recommended to visit the east coast of the Malacca Peninsula and the entire island of Borneo with its small “satellite” islands. On the peninsula, not so far from the capital, divers are awaited by both famous and new islands of Pahang and Terengganu. The more northern islands of Redang, Perhentian and Lang-Tengah will delight not only untouched protected coral reefs and an abundance of colorful sea creatures, but also the pristine beauty of more recently opened beaches. The more southern island of Tioman is particularly suitable for technical divers. By the way, Tioman is considered one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. In addition, it is in these parts that there is a unique opportunity: “dive safari” along the east coast of Malaysia! I must say, “dive safaris” as such are not very common in this country, but one of the most comfortable yachts in Thailand, Ocean Rover, which opened many new dive sites from the Andaman Sea to Sulawesi a few years ago, is now developing a new direction. Colorful, memorable diving and the almost complete absence of competitors fighting for the right to be the first to see the beauty of new dive sites makes this route more than worthy of attention.
However, Malaysia has something to offer and lovers of everything ready. Sipadan Island cannot be recommended – its name has been self-explanatory for many years. This famous resort, the dream of any diver, despite the popularity throughout the year, guarantee the best weather with the greatest visibility from April to October. And August in Sipadan is also the best month to observe how the “symbols” of this island, green turtles, lay eggs.
Other dive resorts surrounding Borneo have similar seasonality – Mataking Island and Lankayan wait for divers from April to October, with the highest chances of seeing whale sharks in April and May.
Separately, it is worth noting the island of Layang-Layang – this atoll is located far in the ocean and diving there depends much more on the vagaries of the weather. It’s time to get acquainted with the countless large oceanic inhabitants of this resort – from April to October. Visiting this island in other months, like the Tubbatakha reef in the Philippines, is not recommended.
I note that, going to Southeast Asia, it often makes sense to plan a combination of several resorts. So you will not only see much more and get more impressions, but also feel the true flavor of the country much more sharply.
Summer is the highest season for Indonesia, since the period from May to September is the best time to visit the two underwater treasures of this country: Manado in the north of the island of Sulawesi and Wakatobi in the south. By the brightness and diversity of corals and reef dwellers at shallow depths, these places confidently lead. By the way, it is convenient to get to Manado from Singapore, while your own charter flights from the island of Bali fly to Wakatobi. It turns out excellent combined program “Singapore – Manado” and “Bali – Wakatobi.” These resorts are perfectly combined with each other.
And at the resort of Wakatobi, the luxury yacht “Pelagian” is “attributed”, and for enthusiastic divers a combination of a weekly “dive safari” and a rest in a hotel of the same duration is perfect.
The period from April to October is the best time for yet another underwater version of Indonesia – “dive safari” to the island of Komodo, about which I spoke in a previous article. It is here that the season “migrates” many yachts from Thailand.
And the Bali-Komodo-Bali cruises, like other Indonesia resorts, will be interesting not only for divers, but also for lovers of snorkeling. A great addition in the form of an interesting ground program will help tourists diversify and fill their impressions with impressions.
In order not to waste time outside the season, many well-equipped safari yachts leave for the summer from Thailand’s Similan Islands to the neighboring countries of Indonesia or Malaysia. There at this time is just the highest season! Among such “immigrants” you can find the well-known Russian divers of the yacht “Mermaid I” and “Mermaid II”, “Filcade”, “Ocean Rover” and others.
From March to October, divers wait for the waters of popular diving resorts – Nha Trang and Whale Island. Hon-Moon Marine Park is not rich in ocean dwellers, but bright colors and rare fish species are enough – more than 400 types of hard corals create an impressive palette! The whale island, located nearby, offers divers walls and coral gardens, breathtaking drift dives and, of course, countless types of bright nudibranch mollusks – the greatest variety of them can be found in Vietnam.
