How not to blunder on diving
In the previous parts of the epic narration of Veronica Birman (which is already fit to publish a separate book), you not only learned the basics of diving tourism, but also learned a lot of details and subtleties of diving as such. As is known, “the one who does nothing is not mistaken” and this time we will talk about which “pitfalls” are on the way.
The first “scattering of pebbles” traps you right at the beginning: you can call the breathing mixture NitrOx – “Nitrox” or “Nitrox”: it will not be offended, but you shouldn’t call divers “divers”. Besides the fact that it is simply illiterate from the point of view of a self-respecting diver, in some circles it is also accepted to call “divers” jokingly inexperienced, “green” divers, who have not really learned how to properly dive and behave under water. Also, instead of the dumb word “diving”, probably born from the traditional blending of “French with Nizhny Novgorod”, it is more appropriate to use the existing Russian words “dive”, “dive”, “dive” and even specific sea “walk”, in our case – under water
Another underwater pebble lies in the term “daily diving”. Remember, this is the name for regular dives from the shore or from a boat with accommodation on the shore, unlike diving safari – a sea cruise with regular dives. Despite the fact that the word “daily” in English means “daily, everyday”, it’s impossible to say “to engage in daily diving on a dive safari”.
Trips and Flights
A giant underwater boulder is in the field of air travel and baggage. However, some airlines offer divers an extra weight of baggage without surcharge only within 10 kilograms, and for further excess they have to pay extra, many have already accepted. But the fact that the weight of each bag should not exceed 32 kg, in order not to become a “cargo” and not to go flying according to the rules of air cargo, very few people still know. Divers love to buy special bags for equipment, which is conveniently placed everything you need. True, such “happiness” can weigh 40 kg and more – and not everyone is ready to promptly scatter luggage in several bags in order to keep up with the norm.
Domestic flights at the resorts of discounter airlines luring their flights with incredibly low fares are often very expensive for divers. The fact is that discounters, unlike other airlines, offer very little free baggage weight, and overweight has to pay much more. So, before rushing to get tickets for a “budget” flight, you should roughly estimate the weight of the baggage and the size of the surcharge – and calculate whether it will turn out to be really budget.
The rules of local airlines are sometimes fraught with another unexpected surprise: on the islands, where small, often seats for 20, turboprop aircraft, there are fundamental restrictions on the weight of a person with luggage. And the matter is not even in money, but in the carrying capacity of the aircraft. For example, a person with a luggage can allocate a quota of 100-120 kg. Anything from above has a chance to fly, not only for an additional fee, but also on the next flight – unless, of course, it has its own “heavyweights”. Sometimes there is an opportunity to buy additional space for luggage, but not all airlines allow it. Therefore, always lay more time on the docking from one airline to another flight: remember that it’s inconvenient to run with bulky and heavy luggage between the terminals.
