What should I look for when choosing a vessel?

Given that no one assigns ships of the official category, every ship owner tries to convince you that it is his boat – 5 * Deluxe, no less. Right on the old Russian saying … At the same time, there are annoying misunderstandings: the generally accepted 4 * may well be much better than many 5 *. If we take into account that the bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) with hot water is a constant attribute of modern ships, how can you figure out who is who?

First of all, you should pay attention to the basic parameters of the vessel, which affect its comfort:

Size: first, the larger the ship, the more stable it is, that is, the pitching is less felt, and the things left on the nightstand in the evening will most likely not have to be looked for on the floor in the morning. Secondly, on a large ship there is no cramped, and everyone can find a corner for themselves.
Body: can be wooden, metal or made of fiberglass. Metal ships, due to their weight, are more stable than classic wooden ones, and the hull made of fiberglass is considered the most modern and safest solution.
Fresh water: it is not so much the supply of water that is important here, but the quantity and capacity of desalination plants. It depends on how long it will be possible to bask in the shower and, most importantly, can we not be afraid that someone will forget to turn off the tap for the night?
Date of construction of the vessel: successful ships are operated continuously and, of course, entirely, so the interiors in them “wear out” much faster than in hotels. If the ship was built a few years ago, it is necessary to clarify the date of the last renovation.
Speed: the faster the boat, the less time will be spent on the transitions, and the more interesting places can be achieved. In addition, it is just a shame if, on the way to a well-known dive site, someone waves a hand overtaking your boat.
Cabins: beds in twin cabins can be located both on the same level and on different. The standard cabin layout on the ship is a double bed downstairs and a single bed upstairs. This does not mean that the cabins are triple – just such an arrangement allows you to settle into the cabin like, for example, newlyweds, and two men. However, on some ships more cabins with one big bed, on the other – with two on the same level. To avoid misunderstandings, do not forget to specify the desired type of cabin!
Services: despite the fact that most of the ships have approximately the same set of services, it is worth noting the features of each particular ship – the presence of music or television in cabins, laundry, Internet access, libraries, Nitrox mixes for diving, opportunities for organizing discos and other additional entertainment.
Dive guide: this is the person who can make dive safari both fabulously interesting and unbearably monotonous. He plans to dive, gathers a group and often is a part-time director of the cruise. It makes sense to ask the local dive guide or European, what is his experience of diving in this country and what is the experience of working as a dive guide on a safari.
But the convenience of the cabin, the comfort of the cabin and the quality of the decoration will have to be judged by the photographs and recommendations of the tour operator – here the choice depends on the preferences of customers and the budget of the trip.
